Lion's Head is amongst the three iconic peaks that surround the city of Cape Town. Lion's Head Route. It is the small peak on the right when you face Table Mountain, and is one of the most climbed peaks in the world.
It is one of the most picturesque hikes. It has Table Mountain as its backdrop and is situated in one of the richest floral kingdoms in the world.
This is one of the most picturesque hikes up Table Mountain. The route, though appearing challenging at first, later becomes thrilling and enjoyable. The route starts on a steep gravel road that changes into a spiral mountain path which winds its way around the "Lion's Head” gaining height at a steady pace.
Chain handrails, metal handles and ladders are in place to help on steep sections at the rock face.The hike is moderate, with paths which have chains and ladders to assist you. There is also an option including a short, difficult section of rock scrambling using fixed chains and steelse

The fauna you may see are the Rock Hyrax (Dassie) small furry animal. You may spot lizards such as the black-girdled lizard, Cape skink and the Southern Rock Agama. On the lower section of the mountain there are still porcupines, and the unique Cape Fynbos.
The summit can be reached within an hour and one can enjoy. From the summit there are incredible 360° views, of Cape Town city, Robben Island, mountains and the sparkling coastline.

Please keep in mind that there may be temperature changes, and a lightweight waterproof jacket, fleece and base layer is recommended.
Hikers will return via the same route. It is moderately easy with exposed summit ridge scramble.
