HIKING TABLE MOUNTAIN — FAQS
1. Which route up Table Mountain is best for beginners?
Platteklip Gorge is the most popular and direct route to the summit — steep but simple, with no scrambling. It’s perfect for first-timers who want a clear path and incredible city views. Your Muki Venture guide will set a relaxed pace and add rest breaks as needed.
2. What are the more adventurous Table Mountain routes?
India Venster and Skeleton Gorge are favorites for confident hikers.
India Venster: A thrilling trail with light rock scrambling and epic ledges overlooking the Atlantic.
Skeleton Gorge: Lush forest, ladders, and a long scenic climb from Kirstenbosch to the plateau.
Both are guided safely with full support from Muki Venture.
3. How long does it take to hike Table Mountain?
Depending on route and pace:
Platteklip Gorge: 2–3 hours up
India Venster: 3–4 hours up
Skeleton Gorge: 4–5 hours up
Your guide factors in rest, photos, and weather so you can enjoy rather than rush.
4. Can I take the cable car down after hiking up?
Yes! Most Muki Venture guests hike up and ride the cable car down for comfort and views. If the cableway closes due to wind, your guide will safely guide you down a different route.
5. What should I bring for a Table Mountain hike?
1.5–2 litres of water
Hat, sunscreen, sunglasses
Sturdy hiking shoes
Snack or energy bar
Light jacket or windbreaker
All hikes are private, so your guide can store small items and assist with gear if needed.
